On Behalf of COAST Tropical Fish Club, we extend a warm welcome to all interested parties for a very special COAST meeting event in Long Beach, June 3 at 1PM. Admission is free!
Cambodian Inland Fisheries & Newly Found Species
Guest speaker, Dr. So Nam, Ph.D. is the head of Cambodia’s Inland Fisheries Research and Development Institute (IFReDI), a division of the Cambodian government tasked with the mission "To provide scientific information and technical support for the sustainable development and management of inland living aquatic resources in Cambodia, based on biological and socioeconomic research."
Dr. So Nam will speak on the status and health of the fish and fisheries in Cambodia, including key issues that affect the Mekong river, whose Cambodian portion is home to 500 different fish species as well as the fresh water Irrawaddy dolphin and Tonle Sap Lake home of 300 unique species of fish.
In addition, Dr. So Nam will discuss some of the newest species of fish discovered in Cambodia.
Cambodia is home to a diverse range of fish and aquatic wildlife. From the Giant freshwater sting-ray who can grow to 14 feet in size, to the tiny rice fish, which when fully grown is less than 1" in length. Come join us to learn more about this diverse eco system, the threats it faces, and the challenges on keeping it healthy while also providing for the demands of a growing nation.
This meeting will be taking place at a special location.
